The London Mitral Clinic was founded by a group of experts in mitral valve disease within the UK. The expert team offer cutting edge treatments and examination for valvular heart disease from medical therapy to transcatheter intervention to endoscopic and full conventional surgery.

Our team of experts have worked together for many years, delivering exceptional service to patients across the globe and training other clinicians internationally.

The team have the most experience of Transcatheter edge-to-edge Repair (TEER) in the U.K, working with both the MitraClip (Abbott, US) and Pascal (Edwards, US) systems. In 2019 they were chosen as the first Abbott MitraClip Centre of Excellence (CoE) in the world. TEER is delivered by Dr Robert Smith, Clinical Lead of the Structural Heart Team at The Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals.

Our expert surgeon, Mr Toufan Bahrami, offers endoscopic (keyhole) and conventional surgery as well the Harpoon procedure. He is one of the highest volume operators in the UK for endoscopic valve surgery.

Dr Ali Vazir is the Clinical Lead for heart failure at the Royal Brompton Hospital and is an expert in echocardiographic imaging. Dr Vazir performs both trans-thoracic and trans-oesophageal echo (TOE) both in the assessment phase and during the procedures/surgery. His expert eye guides the team to ensure a best possible outcome for the patient.

Dr Saeed Mirsadaree is an expert in cardiac CT and cardiovascular MRI, which is an essential part to planning minimal invasive surgery and trans catheter valve procedures.

Lauren Connolly, Clinical Nurse Specialist in structural heart disease, has ten years’ experience in both cardiology and cardiac surgical care. She co-ordinates the patients through the service from the initial clinical consultations, the tests and investigations, the inpatient assessment and assists in the transcatheter procedures. She has led the way in the U.K as one of the first such nurse specialists. She has now assisted in more than 300 TEER procedures and presented at multiple international meetings. She will ensure the journey from consultation to treatment to discharge is smooth and that you and your relatives are kept well informed.

The team are actively participating in research trials into new keyhole treatments in order to offer the best available treatments for patients. All treatments are discussed by the group who will jointly agree on what is the best treatment for the patient.
