Dr Ali Vazir is a consultant cardiologist based at the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals, part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. He is also an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London. 

He is an expert in heart failure and echocardiography. He completed his training in London and was a Post-doctoral research fellow at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA.

He has specialist interest in acute and chronic heart failure and periprocedural echocardiography for transcatheter based procedures. 

He has guided over several hundred transcatheter-based procedures including edge to edge repair of mitral and tricuspid valves, transcatheter valve implantation and closure of para-valvular leaks.

He is the educational lead for cardiology training at the Royal Brompton hospital. 

He was awarded his PhD from National Heart and Lung Institue, Imperial College London and has published extensively in prestigious journals such as Circulation, Journal of American College of Cardiology, European Heart Journal and JAMA cardiology. He was won awards for his research from the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology and from the European Respiratory Society.

Dr Vazir is an associate editor for ESC Heart Failure and a senior advising consulting editor for JACC: Case reports.
